Icelandic Flow

Upstream of Gulfoss, Iceland (Steve Sickels)

Another black & white conversion — this one from Iceland, taken in July of last year.

We visited the spectacular and dramatic Gullfoss on a rainy day. Despite the challenges of keeping my camera dry, the rain and mist made for moody scene, which was a treat to photograph.

This “small” scene was just upstream of the main falls, shot at 100 mm, and then cropped just a bit. I love the juxtaposition of the dark wet rocks and the smooth flow of the water. And the black & white conversion gave me the opportunity to really highlight these contrasts (which were a bit obscured in the mist and rain).

When I look at this photo, I think of the water taking these small plunges, just prior to the huge and roaring drop that soon awaits…

Thanks for taking a look.
