More processing of older images into black & white with my new(ish) software, Nik’s Silver Efex Pro 2.
This image is of an iris in our yard, from 2009. Irises are my favorite flower — perhaps because they were my grandfather’s favorite as well, and with my fond memories of his beloved garden. But also their delicate beauty, I’m sure.
We have quite a few irises in our yard — yellow, purple, and all rather vibrant, which are a treat. But this particular iris — which returns each year — is a delicate white, with subtle hints of yellow. Here’s the color image, for comparison.
I think I like this black & white version the most, though. In the black and white conversion process, I worked to capture the ephemeral and almost translucent delicacy of the petals, particularly around the edges. It’s rewarding for me, at least, to see this quality emerge in the processed image.
Thanks for taking a look.
