Iris, and Stem

Irises are my favorite flowers! And I think this is my favorite iris. It’s in our font yard, right next to the front walkway. It blooms every year in mid-May, and for me it’s big May treat!  I photographed it in 2009, here, which shows off its gentle white color and delicate yellows. It is so nice! And here is the black and white version of that same image, which I’m fond of.

In 2013, I wanted to capture a different perspective on this familiar flower. This iris is both gorgeous, and elegant, with its slim stems and delicate blossoms. The earlier images capture its beauty, I think, but not so much its elegance. I hope this image shows it off.

It was taken with my 100 mm macro lens, at f/14 and ISO 100.

The blossoms are mostly done, now; I look forward to more iris photos in May, 2014!
