Scotland Photography with Colin Homes

Sunrise at Loch Assynt, Scotland (Steve Sickels)

I had an absolutely wonderful trip to Scotland at the end of March. I took lots of photos, and am (finally!) posting a few of them here. More to come as I work through them.

The trip was a workshop with one of my absolute favorite photographers, Colin Homes, of Edinburgh. (He has another Website here.) And it was just me, and Colin. What a treat!  It was actually a road trip, of sorts too, as we covered quite a bit of amazing ground in the Scottish Highlands. A short summary:

  • Sunday, March 23: Arrived in the morning; picked up by Colin at the Edinburgh Airport, and a drive to Glencoe for sunset photos.
  • Monday, March 24: Exploring and photographing Glencoe in the morning, and off to the Isle of Skye. Sunset photos at Elgol.
  • Tuesday, March 25: Sunrise photos at Sligachan, Isle of Skye. Then the Quiraing (which was one of my favorite spots on Skye when Elizabeth and I were there in September of 2013). Then to Neist Point for sunset.
  • Wednesday, March 26: Sunrise at a peaceful and beautiful shoreline spot on Skye. Then off for the Glen Torridon area, with a drive up to the top of Applecross Pass (dramatic!) along the way. And a beautiful waterfall along the way. Once in Glen Torridon, I took Colin on a short hike to a wonderful waterfall I had found on my earlier trip with Elizabeth. Sunset at Inveralligin, and then on to a B&B in Shieldaig.
  • Thursday, March 27: Sunrise at Shieldaig. (The Glen Torridon area is just spectacular!) Then on to Ullapool, and Lochinver, by way of Loch Assynt. Sunset at a beautiful beach near Lochinver.
  • Friday, March 28: The long drive back to Edinburgh, with another stop at Loch Assynt for sunrise photos — including the one above. And a good dinner — and then to my hotel — in Edinburgh.
  • Saturday, March 29: Met Colin for breakfast, and then off to the Edinburgh airport.

Colin was an amazing and thoughtful workshop leader!  He knew and took me to all sorts of wonderful locations. I had been to many of the general areas we visited previously (with Elizabeth), but not to the special locations he knew, and not for what turned out to be a week of amazing sunrise and sunset light and colors. I also got quite a bit of valuable photography guidance, which I am now looking forward to putting to more good use! And, he was good, fun company.

The photo above is from Loch Assynt, Friday morning.

I’ll be posting more photos as I have time to process them a bit.  Please stay tuned!

  6. Hiya! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you
know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when browsing from my
iphone. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to fix
this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share.

    Appreciate it!
