Had a great opportunity last night, to see Paul McCartney play at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. What a wonderful concert! Such a treat to see him after many years of enjoying his music — especially his music with the Beatles, which he was happy to perform for his enthusiastic Washington D.C. audience.
Luckily, Nationals Park allows telephoto lenses up to 8″ in length, which is exactly the (non-extended) length of my Canon 100-400 mm telephoto lens. It’s challenging to take photos from far away (we were in the first tier balcony, quite a distance from the stage) and in low-light conditions. But I had fun trying! And even though the sound quality was less-than-stellar, it was a treat just to be there, enjoying the show.
Chris Richards of the The Washington Post wrote a review of the concert, which nicely captures why it was so special to be there, I think. Chris notes that he played, non-stop, for two hours and 42 minutes, which is a long time for anyone — and especially for someone who has been performing for over fifty years (!).
Feel free to click on the above image, to see a slightly larger version. All the images I’ve posted (nine so far; more to come) from the concert are here.
A few more…
I hope you enjoy the photos.
